Groundfish
Groundfish are fish species that inhabit the bottom of the ocean. In British Columbia, common groundfish species that are targeted by fishermen include halibut, lingcod, rockfish, cod, flounder and sole.
Because groundfish do not move from one area to another as fast as pelagic species, population in a localized area can deplete too fast if fishing pressure is high.
