Split Shot

Split shots are small lead weights that can be clamped onto your fishing line. They are mainly used to balance a float when you are float fishing. It is advantageous to use split shots than a large piece of weight for float fishing at times because small increments in weight change results in a well balanced, sensitive float. They are mostly used when you are float fishing in a lake or in streams that have a moderate to weak flow.

Split shots come in many different sizes. In Europe, tiny split shots that weigh less than a gram are used to balance small, sensitive floats for carp fishing. In British Columbia, large splits shots are commonly used to balance big floats for salmon and steelhead fishing.
