BC Provincial Youth Fly Fishing Championships

The Innovative Fly Fisher is gearing up to host the first BC Provincial Fly Fishing Championships for youths between the ages of 13 to 18. This event will take place on October 5th and 6th, 2013 . The venues for this year's championships will include 2 stillwater and 2 river venues that are located in Maple Ridge.

The top ten competitors will qualify for a spot on the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team, which travels throughout North America and abroad to compete and represent Canada at a number of national and international competitions and conservation symposiums.

  • Entry fee: $25.00 per person (entry fees are used to cover the cost of box lunches and awards)
  • Maximum number of participants: 32 competitors.
  • Competitors must be 13 to 18 years old at any point during the year of the competition (2013).
  • Participants will fish all 4 venues at some point during the 2 days of the championships.
  • All flies must be tied on barbless or de-barbed hooks.
  • All fishing must strictly be performed on a catch & release basis.
  • FIPS-Mouche Rules apply (the international standard for competitive fly fishing).

Schedule for October 5th:

  • Session 1: 9:00am - 12:00pm
  • Lunch break and relocation to next venue
  • Session2: 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Schedule for October 6th:

  • Session 3: 9:00am - 12:00pm
  • Lunch break and relocation to next venue
  • Session 4: 2:00pm - 5:00pm

This will be the first provincial youth fly fishing championship ever to be held in British Columbia, and should prove to be a fun time and valuable learning experience!
