Fraser River Cleanup

Posted on September 11th 2014, by Fraser Valley Salmon Society

Fraser Valley Salmon Society will be celebrating World Rivers Day with a cleanup on the Fraser River gravel bars between Chilliwack and Hope on Saturday September 27th. Registration will be held at West End Auto Body (45825 Airport Road in Chilliwack) from 8:00am to 9:00am. Refreshments will be provided along with pickup sticks and garbage bags.

Participants will be asked to bring boats if possible, to access some of the heavily fished bars that can only be reached by boats. Other bars like Peg Leg and Gill Road can be worked on by volunteers without boats.

After a long Fraser River summer salmon opening, garbage can often be found discarded along gravel bars that have been heavily used. The Fraser Valley Salmon Society hopes anglers can attend and clean up garbage left on the riparian zone of this great river to prevent it from being washed down to the Salish Sea in the 2015 freshet.

Many thanks to Harry, Darlene and Jeff for once again providing their facility at West End Auto for this cleanup staging area. We also like to thank Tara Friesen from the City of Chilliwack for providing free tipping charges at the landfill.
