Roll up your sleeves and release a young coho salmon into Stoney Creek and celebrate its great journey to the Pacific Ocean. Each spring, the Stoney Creek Environment Committee hosts a grand event known as "The Great Salmon Send-off". During the festivity, young participants will get a chance to release juvenile coho salmon that have been raised at the local hatchery. In addition, there will be plenty of children activities and educational displays on site, making it a fantastic venue for families.

Located in Burnaby, Stoney Creek is one of the last few urban salmon bearing streams. With several smaller tributaries, it is mainly fed by groundwater, rain and snow at times. Each fall, both coho and chum salmon return to spawn in Stoney Creek. Volunteers of the Stoney Creek Environment Committee work with local residents, businesses and various government agencies to protect this fragile watershed. Through events such as "The Great Salmon Send-off", the committee hopes to educate youngsters about our precious salmon runs.
