Young anglers in the Lower Mainland now have a chance to catch a big trout during this spring break! The Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery, operated by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, has released large rainbow trout into Mill Lake in Abbotsford and Green Timbers Lake in Surrey last week. Each lake received 100 fish. These rainbow trout weigh around 2kg on average and they are surplus broodstocks from the hatchery. With some luck, you may just be able to find one at the end of your line!
The Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery will begin its catchable rainbow trout stockings before the end of this month. To follow the stocking progress and plan your lake fishing trips in the Lower Mainland, you can visit Region 2's catchable rainbow trout stocking database.
