The Kootenay Trout Hatchery in Fort Steele is having an open house on Saturday April 10th. The hatchery, which is operated by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, is responsible for trout stockings in the Southeastern BC region and the Upper Columbia White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative.
The open house will take place from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Beside hatchery demonstrations such as egg incubation, fish spawning and other educational displays, young anglers will also have a chance to catch trout from the fishing ponds, so be sure to bring your own fishing rods.
The hatchery is located at 4522 Fenwick Road, Fort Steele. For more information, please phone 250-429-3214 or email kootenay@gofishbc.com.
