Redside Shiner
Richardsonius balteatus
Redside shiner is a small species in the minnow family. They are related to northern pikeminnow, peamouth chub, carp and are native in British Columbia. Their population can be dense and in some lakes, they compete directly with stocked rainbow trout for food. Their average size is between 2 and 6 inches long, so it is not a targeted gamefish species in British Columbia.
